The word rune means “to whisper”. These angular shaped symbols originated from the Middle East and were used as an oral tradition. Runes are connected to all of Nature, the Elements and the Gods/Goddess. When people began migrating across the continents to Northern Europe, particularly to Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Norway, the Runes became a deep part of their language and culture.
It was the Vikings that brought the Runes to Great Britain over 3500 years ago. We can see runic carvings today on many standing stones and sacred places in Scotland (Callanish), Ireland (New Grange) and Northern England. The Runes consists of 24 symbols in three groups (or aetts as they are called). These aetts are the earthbound, unconscious and transformational.
Using the Runes as a tool for counselling and guidance has occurred for thousands of years. Our ancient ancestors used the runes for help with the weather and growing their crops or finding watering holes. Today the Runes can be used for everyday questions, or to find guidance with health, work, prosperity and relationships to more deeper profound spiritual matters.
