The Rune Reading of the Month: Eihwaz.
Eihwaz is the 13th Rune in the Elder Futhark and the fifth in the Unconscious Aett (family group). Eihwaz is a Water rune that strengthens our whole skeletal system and spine.
Eihwaz is the active theme from 29th December to 13th January.
Eihwaz is a potent Rune that is the central force between north and south, spirit and human being. Strongly associated with Odin-the founder of the Rune symbols. During his initiation into the Runes, Odin hung 9 days and 9 nights from the World tree (the Ash) slipping in and out of consciousness. His focus was to uncover his true self and life purpose. Allow yourself time now to be still, quiet and ask;
Who am I?
From where did I come?
Why am I here?
What is my future?
Eihwaz connects with Yew trees, the material of ancient bows. Become like the arrow with balance, poise and focus.
- Set clear realistic intentions and expectations. Perhaps write these down.
- Practise setting loving boundaries with yourselves and others.
- Strengthen the spine and skeletal system. Consider yoga, stretching, tai-chi, pilates, dance..or anything that beings you joy!
- Practise discernment. My teachers Bob and Lee Nitsche of the Wolf clan taught that if unsure of an answer practise saying “not now”. It brings time, consideration and thoughtfulness to you and others.
May you plant the seeds of good intentions for the year ahead. Wishing you a Happy 2014!
